Genre Research: Romance

Over-the shoulder shots are highly used in romance movies to show the conversation between two people and their body language. Two-shots are also used because the movies are based on a couple in love and going on dates together. Close-ups are used to show the characters facial expressions and when the couple kiss. Long shots are used when the actors are doing things like walking or hugging, or forming a connection, to show the body language. Costumes in romance movies usually include formal attire when the couple go on dates, like dresses or pants, and any other scenario, normal clothing. Lighting is light when the mood is happy and when the characters are outside, or it can be dim when on a dinner date. Acting typically goes like two people being close and cuddly as if they are forming a romantic connection. The women wear normal makeup when going on dates to make themselves look more presentable. Props used could be flowers or chocolates or phones, money, or beds. The setting is at work, home, or restaurants, sometimes in a foreign location if they go on a big trip or honeymoon. Cross cuts are used in editing to show what the couple is doing at the same time but in different locations, like one in the kitchen cooking breakfast and the other still sleeping. Popular, known songs are used to make the atmosphere relatable and happy. Diegetic sounds like knocking or doorbell rings are also used. Dialogue is used to build the emotional connection between connections or arguments between them. Some romance movies are Little Women, Me Before You, and Crazy Rich Asians. I love the different shots used in these films. I also love the soundtracks used and lighting to make everything happy. I don't like the amount of time it takes to build the relationship foundation and story. I love to watch romance movies if I want to be happy.
