My Pitch

 My first pitch goes like this: Imagine on a dark rainy day, a girl is writing in her diary about someone out to get her and suddenly gets killed. Who done it? I think I would have a lot of fun doing a movie based on a murder mystery because it is easy to get the watcher interested. I would have fun introducing all of the potential suspects and their alibis most of all. Then toward the end I can leave it on a sort of cliff hanger to really engage my audience. It can be easy to do because it only takes place in one setting. I also have actors handy that can be a part of it. However, I'm not sure about it because it might be done a lot. But, ultimately I think I can produce a never-before-seen plot that will blow away my audience. My second pitch would go as following: A criminal mastermind gathers other mastermind to pull of the biggest heist in history, stealing the president's car.  I knew I wanted to incorporate a car in some aspect of my film because I want to show off my b...

 Scene 1 Fade in transition.  Dark lighting. (tilt from ceiling to high angle)  Avery is writing in her diary (Close up).  The time is shown for a second on the screen.  Voiceover of what she is writing: "Dear Diary, Today was weird, I've had this gut feeling all day that something bad is going to happen. I hope it's just in my head..."  Over the shoulder (low angle)  shot of the killer walking with a knife (sound of feet walking) behind Avery. (dressed in dark clothing with a hood to hide head) A suspenseful score is played with the voiceover.  Avery looks back to see the killer her as soon as she says "head". (shocked face)   The killer continues to stab Avery. Another transition fade. Scene 2 The time is shown again representing an hour has passed.  An establishing shot of Blair (Avery's sister) walking into frame with headphones playing an upbeat song, knocking then opening the door, while taking out headphones and the music sto...

Genre Research: Knives Out

 I am going to take inspiration from Knives Out because it is a murder mystery, like my plot. However, it's a different, out-of-the-box movie, which is why I like it so much. It takes place in an old creepy mansion, owned by a wealthy old man, and it begins with his murder. I think I am going to do the same thing, set the setting and immediately show the murder scene. The lighting of most of the scenes, especially those that take place inside the house, is dark, which follows the generic thriller lighting concept. There is a detective, which is also another given, and his costume is very detective-like, a formal, black and white suit with black suspenders. I like the formalness detectives in murder mysteries typically wear and I think I will try to incorporate that. The music is also very foreboding, the use of violins in a slow tempo lets the audience know something is going to happen, which I enjoy.
