Title Research: The Forever Purge

I found the opening scene of The Forever purge on YouTube.

What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

The titles displayed begin with :who presents, in association with, and the production studio. Then it ends with the title of the movie. This intro scene does not incorporate the actors names however which I find strange. There was plenty of time to show the actors names but most of the scenes were wordless.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

Scary images are shown throughout the whole opening scene. The images are animated or drawings, not real life figures. The scenes begin with a normal picture then transitions to the same picture but made scary. The images also incorporate certain people in a certain setting so maybe it is alluding to the real settings the film is set in.

What connotations do these images carry?

The images are very alarming. I think they foreshadow disaster in the film. It is known that the Purge series are about destruction and violence so I think this fits the genre.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

Thrillers are supposed to make the audience feel uneasy. These images do this. The purge is a scenario that is very possible, so the film has a horrifying, unsettling feel to it especially with the dark images shown. The images are red and the audience may associate this with blood. Blood most of the time does not mean a good thing. This sense of setting a scary setting makes the watcher want to know what exactly happens and maybe take tips from it if it become a real-life situation.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

News reports that have worrying information makes the audience listen to things potentially happening in the movie, this makes the audience want to continue watching. Using the red color and showing things on fire resembles chaos, this can pull the watchers in even more.

How has technology been used effectively?

The transitions used between the normal pictures and the red pictures make it scarier because they are harsh and a static noise is used everytime there is a transition. There is also new reports playing the whole scene and they depict scary events happening. Slow dollies are used to show the setting even more. I like how they're slow to appeal to the suspenseful feeling.
