Genre Research: A Simple Favor

A Simple Favor is another thriller movie that leaves the audience guessing but it is not technically a murder mystery, it is based on a missing person. To start off, it doesn't really seem like a thriller until the antagonist or the person who goes missing is introduced. A slowmo is used to introduce the main character (that goes missing later), the score is also ominous with the use of violins again. These elements create an ominous look for this character. Close ups are also used to show characters facial expressions and show their reactions to others actions. The antagonist is wearing dark clothing paired with a dark hat and heels, this creates a mysterious vibe. Other than that, the other character has a bright vibe and wears bright clothing to compliment that aspect. The lighting however, is normal which doesn't fit the regular thriller conventions. Jump cuts are typically used when the characters are talking, I think I will incorporate this. Tracking scenes and pans are used to follow a character when they're walking, I want to use this in my film. The accusation/framing scene in this film takes place and during it there is no dialogue, only a soundtrack, and everything is happening in slow motion, I like this type of scene and may use it in my movie. This movie is also a comedy, which I am not going to incorporate in my film. The jokes made, however are serious which still goes along with thriller acting. There are many two shots because there are main couples shown whether it's the two mom best friends or their kids. There aren't many close up shots as thriller movie usually incorporate which is weird. I know I will incorporate many close ups. An interesting shot used was an aerial shot, which I thought was interesting because i don't see many of those in thrillers. It was used also in slow motion what the antagonist purposefully hurt herself by throwing a tool in the air and letting it hit her face. This is framing and I don't think I will have time to incorporate this in my film but I think it is very intriguing. I enjoyed this movie a lot and thought it was a fascinating take on a missing persons plot.
